Ghea is one of Indonesia’s most well known fashion designers renowned for having promoted a renaissance in Indonesia’s ethnic textile tradition.

After graduating from a Fashion College in London, she returned to Indonesia to establish her Design Studio in 1980. She was determined to establish an Indonesian fashion identity based on Indonesia’s rich heritage & culture. Maintaining the basic principles of traditional textile design, motifs, colours, layout and fabrics were translated into modern fashion.

Her Designs and Styles use strong folklore elements and boho chic styles which became her trademark in the Indonesian fashion scene. The highly successful “Jumputan”/tie-dyed fabric (Pelangi Palembang Cloth) known also as the colorful Rainbow Cloth, have became her trademark and has developped into a variety of different design until today. Furthermore she created over the years many other textile designs such as motifs inspired by Batik, Ikat, such as Sumba Ikat, Ulos (Batak), Borneo motif, Grinsing Bali, Songket and many more which are endless still today.

Exhibition & Fashion Shows

Ghea represented Indonesia, exhibiting and presenting Fashion Shows in Various countries around the world such as New York, Paris, London, Amsterdam, Scandanavia, Hawaii, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, India and several countries in the Middle East. She also has been a regular participant at the IFF (Islamic Fashion Festival), founded by Malaysian Dato Sri Raja Rezza Shah

Public Figures

Ghea had the privilege of meeting international public figures and celebrities during her career and fashion shows abroad, including Janice Dickinson, Cindy Crawford, and Julia Roberts, who have all worn her collections.

Royalties

Ghea was personally invited by Queen Elizabeth II to attend a State Banquet at Buckingham Palace during President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s state visit. She also had the opportunity to showcase her designs at the National History Museum in London, where she met the former Duchess of Wessex, now known as HRH Sophie Duchess of Edinburgh.
